AI Security

Plain uses AI to help your support team work faster, from summarizing threads to quickly suggesting thread replies. This article explains how your data is handled when AI features are active.

Plain will be rolling out Anthropic model usage on April 20, 2026.

How your data is handled

When Plain AI features are active, conversation data is sent to third-party AI providers to generate responses. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your data is never used for training. Neither OpenAI nor Anthropic use your data to train their models.

  • Data is retained for 30 days by these providers for auditing and compliance purposes only.

  • Plain AI features are on by default. You can opt out at any time from your Plain AI settings.

AI providers

Plain uses both OpenAI and Anthropic to power its AI features. Full details on how Plain processes data with these providers, including sub-processor agreements, are covered in our DPA.

Opting out

If you'd prefer not to use AI features, you can disable them entirely:

  1. Go to Plain AI → Configuration in your workspace settings.

  2. Toggle off the features you don't want active.

Changes take effect immediately. Your data won't be sent to any AI providers once features are disabled.
